My Black Midi Skirt Obsession

Anyone on my Instagram would have seen my ‘best buy of the summer so far’ quite a few times already, but I just cannot get enough of it.  And now it’s in the sale too. Perfect.

It’s the Black Eyelet Midi Skirt from Gap. I bought it on a whim a few weeks ago and have worn it at least twice a week ever since – now I can’t quite work out what I did without it; always a good sign of a great buy.

It’s been to the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the V&A, plus Alice’s Adventure’s Underground, AND a lovely friend’s lovely 40th party to name just three outings.

Being fully lined and in fab lightweight cotton it was perfect in the heatwave that lasted all of two minutes, but works perfectly on cooler days with a tee and denim jacket as well, or – my favourite look I think – with a denim shirt tucked in.

And most importantly it’s got pockets and everything – got to love a pocket!   Ooh – have just thought about trying with a black and white Breton too – which I don’t have actually have.  Yet….

It’s down to £27.99 in the sale online, but I did see it at Westfield Stratford for £9.99 so is even cheaper instore.  If you are looking online there are only limited sizes available I’m afraid (try the tall or petite versions as well).  Use code SUNNYGAP for a further 20% off.

I loved it so much I’ve actually bought it in the white too – also on sale, with slightly more sizes available.

A word of warning – the waistband is a bit tight to get over your bottom (or it is for me!), although a perfect fit once on, but if you put it on over your head like a top its much easier! I wear an XS and am a size 8-10.

They call it mellow yellow…

Here we are on Day 6 of the Instagram #mystylephotochallenge challenge  – which I am determined to fully participate in this month instead of petering out on about Day 9.  Watch this space….

If you’re on Instagram come and give me a follow…lots of behind the scenes, randomness going on!

Today’s prompt is yellow, and I was struggling to choose my favourite yellow piece from the Alice’s Wonders range so thought I’d do a quick blog of my top yellow picks…

First and foremost is the super pretty, and very popular Yellow Fern Print Scarf £10. Perfect for adding a bit of spring colour when the weather isn’t actually as spring-like as one would like!

New to the Spring Collection is the Yellow Deco Flower Necklace £14  Such a striking design, really pretty and with more than a touch of 1930s influence. (VERY LOW STOCK LEFT)

Another new ray of sunshine  – the Primrose Sweetie Necklace £9, so easy to wear – perfect over a simple Breton, or plain knit.

Finally, sometimes it’s not all about your neck.  Add a simple pair of yellow earrings for an easy way to add a pop of colour.  Love these Yellow Sparkle Dangly Earrings £5.

And here’s me embracing the shade with my yellow scarf over a grey J Crew Tippi (my most favourite sweater style in the entire world.  I know – how dramatic?)

Check out the co-ordinating sofa and cushions too, now that is commitment to the yellow cause!

Mothers Day Inspiration.

So, they’re there for us all year round and this Sunday, 15th March, is the day we get to say Thank You to our lovely mums.  To make them feel a bit special and nicely spoiled I’ve put together a few lovely pieces for a bit of gift inspiration.

These delicate necklaces are just £8 and are super pretty.

Co-ordinating earrings are also available for £5 to make a matching set.

Or for necklaces that make a bit more of a statement how about this beautiful chocolate and amber number? Also in a striking cobalt and blue colourway.

And who doesn’t love a scarf? Channel the 70s that’s everywhere this season with the Paisley Collection – the Teal and Orange is perfect for spring.

All orders are packaged nicely, but if you would like a specific item to be gift wrapped just let me know either by email to or by putting a note at checkout.  The item(s) will be wrapped especially carefully and tied with ribbon to make the gift extra special!  If you would like a short message included on a business card please also add to your note at checkout.

If you would like to send someone a gift straight from Alice’s Wonders, please leave a message at checkout and the invoice can be emailed directly to yourself rather than being included in the parcel.

Also, on a more personal note; as a bereaved parent myself and as a close friend to those who have lost their beloved mothers, I send my absolute heartfelt sympathies and thoughts out to all those who can’t be with their precious children and much missed mothers on Sunday.  All my love to you.

Bloggers Picks 2014

In the first year of Alice’s Wonders I was lucky enough to catch the attention of a few fab bloggers who really bought into what I’m working so hard to offer. These lovely ladies supported me hugely both by featuring Alice’s Wonders on their blogs, and also by believing in me and my taste.

The first was back in February 2014. After the lovely Beth from Style Guile featured a gorgeous Kate Spade necklace on her blog, I mentioned to her that I loved Kate Spade and was trying to provide something similar but on a much more High Street budget.  Beth had a look at the S/S 14 Collection and chose a few of her favourite pieces.  One of which remains in the core collection still – a real classic, the Pink Floral Necklace (also available in yellow and blue)

Next was Alex from Wear and Where; for those of you not acquainted with these uber stylish ladies, Alex and Natasha are ex-In Style journalists who now co-write their brilliant lifestyle blog – a definite must-read.  A regular piece is the ‘Object of Lust‘ which is where Alice’s Wonders came in.  Alex featured the Lime Green Solitaire Necklace which is now out of stock, but there’s plenty more green loveliness where that came from….

Finally, a fab, fab – and fantastically stylish –  blogger, Kat from Does My Bum Look 40 took a real liking to the Leopard Print Scarf range and featured them on her blog.  I should say here that Kat is one of my dearest friends and we’ve been close since our eldest were teeny tiny and now they are 10 (!!), so a long time ago…

Here she is doing absolute justice to the Navy and Orange colourway – perfect styling for Spring too.

Coming soon – blogger picks from 2015 so far….

Spotted: Animal Print for Spring

Firstly, I suppose I should apologise for the appalling pun in the title, I just couldn’t resist. Love a pun, #sorrynotsorry.

Until last year I would have classed animal print as Autumn/Winter appropriate only – plus a bit out there and certainly not the ‘new neutral’ that I consider it now.  All that changed last summer when I fell in love with a pair of cheetah print skater shoes from Next, one of my favourite pairs of flats in my wardrobe.  Sadly now OOS, or I would be snapping up a replacement/spare pair sharpish.

Scooting round Bluewater yesterday I spotted a few fab pairs of animal print footwear in Warehouse – these skaters, which are a decent option to replace my fading Next ones (albeit a bit more expensive, but they are leather).

I also saw – but don’t appear to have taken a picture of – this pair of boots which would be perfect in S/S with a denim shirt dress and then into A/W as well. Imagine with coated skinnies and an oversized sweater….

And these perfect pointed ballet pumps – ideal for Spring (please it is coming – isn’t it?).  I’d wear with top-to-toe black, or with distressed denim and a black silky tee; this French Connection one is perfect, comes in lots more colours in store – picked up a mink/grey one yesterday – not online sadly.image (12)

A great way to make animal print more spring appropriate is to go for lighter shades….these two colourways from the Alice’s Wonders Leopard Print Scarf range fit the bill perfectly:

Beige and Stone Leopard Print Scarf
Nude and Peach Leopard Print Scarf

And proof of my animal print  affection – went for the double yesterday.  The aforementioned Next cheetah skaters worn with my current favourite – the Beige and Stone Leopard Print Scarf.

A quick mention to the new Beige Fold Over Clutch in the first image on this blog.  An absolute perfect foil to yesterday’s animal print accessories, don’t you think?

Introducing the Colour Block Stripe Scarves

Have been so excited to add these beautiful scarves to the Alice’s Wonders collection. They’ve already been incredibly well received – and shared on social media, which is always super cool to see. It is definitely one of the best things about my little business, seeing the pieces I’ve selected, and love – being worn by so many fab, lovely and stylish women all over the UK and even overseas!

5 gorgeous colour ways; a mix of vivid brights like the bright red and jade green scarves below, and more muted shades. The jade in particular is very low in stock already.

The navy is a rich, intense shade, almost cobalt.  An easy way to elegantly upgrade a simple navy sweater and jeans outfit.  Almost goes without saying that all the bright colourways would perfectly compliment a classic Breton.

Navy Blue Colour Block Stripe Scarf

The last two are from a more muted colour palette, with more than a nod to the decade of the season – the ’70s are everywhere, but with a contemporary edge. Can just picture Ali MacGraw in Love Story sporting either the maroon or the coffee scarves – sadly can’t guarantee the appearance of Warren Beatty though!

Finally, here’s how these lovely ladies – and me 🙂 – have worn theirs….

Ooh, one last thing – the Yellow Fern Scarf is coming back…sometime in the next week or so. Just email on to go on the waiting list for this lovely burst of spring sunshine.

Stock drop coming soon…….

January Outfits

Slight blog radio silence over the last week or so – if you’re one of my lovely Instagram followers you may have noticed that I have been mentioning a certain event – just once or twice!  Oh yes, I am now 40 – better get that bio changed….

Coming up soon will be the new Spring Scarves plus sneak preview of the new Spring Collection but in the meantime a quick round up of my favourite outfits from January.

Love a statement coat, and this bright orange M&S one cheered up a grey January day.  It goes perfectly with the Navy and Orange Leopard Print Scarf.

Another day, another coat, and this French Connection classic camel coat is the perfect partner for the Classic Coffee Leopard Print Scarf.  In fact two coats were used in the making of this outfit….layered the camel coat up with a vintage style denim jacket from Gap.  Love the contrast of smart camel and casual denim.

Under the coat and scarf was a basic black Zara knit, which was the ideal backdrop for one of my all time favourite necklaces, one of the first stocked, the Purple and Coral Crystal Necklace.

Something slightly different now. Not quite bold enough for leather leggings or jeans, I find these black Warehouse coated jeans (only available in limited sizes online but I have seen them instore recently) a good alternative for this scaredy cat.  Worn with an oversized White Company sweater, denim shirt and the Carmine Fan Necklace.

And finally, probably my favourite outfit of the month – the first fancy dress party I’ve been to for about 10 years.  Had such a blast dressing as Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction – the wig in particular was amazing!! Don’t think the syringe will become part of the Alice’s Wonders Collection any time soon though – do you?!
