Utility trousers and a huge scarf; an easy outfit for a lazy Sunday.

Such a lazy Sunday today, sometimes it’s just what we all need.

Husband off to sunnier climes on a business trip (it’s a hard knock life), so youngest two and I went to the cinema before dragging a very tired nearly teen out for pizza.  A certain someone had been to a 13th (non) sleepover and had come home very tired and grumpy – anyone who has seen my Insta stories today will have seen the hard cold facts of what apparently no sleep whatsoever does to a 12 year old.

These khaki utility trousers from Topshop two years ago have been a mainstay of my spring and autumn wardrobes.  So much so that I actually stalked a pair on eBay and bought those as well in case these wore out (have checked and there aren’t any available at the moment, but it’s definitely worth setting up an alert).

Scarf – Alice’s Wonders £13
Denim Jacket – Gap (old)
Tippi Sweater – J Crew
Utility Trousers – Topshop (old) similar here and here.
Grey Skater Shoes – ASOS (old) similar here.

I haven’t worn this checked scarf for a while, it was nice to have a break from my usual monochrome and actually wear a bit of colour. But don’t worry I’m sure it won’t last and I’ll be back to black tomorrow!

The trousers are from a couple of years ago and Topshop aren’t doing the same ones again this year, but they do have these – which are very similar, but with a slightly different waistline.

I also saw these from Fatface –  which is not somewhere I look particularly often, apart from for PJs.  They do THE best PJ bottoms!

They come in several colours; including charcoal which I am tempted by, and also in lilac which I am strangely drawn to, although I fear they may be a tad grown up for me (which is odd as I am 42 so you would think I was a grown up really!).

So a couple of options there – if I see any more I’ll be sure to let you know as I find I’m often asked about them.

Thanks for reading.

WIWT. The Grey Stitch Scarf and a slogan sweater.

It was back to earth with a bump yesterday after a wonderful break learning to ski.  I can’t recommend our resort or hotel enough.  Hotel Cristallo in Katschberg – such a beautiful location and a wonderful hotel.

Anyway, so back to normal with football cheering on and general weekend duties.  I was super grateful for the Grey Stitch Scarf to keep me cosy pitch-side earlier on.  Worn with coated jeans and a grey slogan sweater; which is actually the only slogan item I own, something that must be rectified.

As you can see I’m also sporting a rather old, filthy pair of New Balance trainers (you never know I may wash these one day!). Watch this space…

Grey Stitch Scarf – Alice’s Wonders
Black Coated Skinny Jeans – Warehouse
Grey Love Slogan Sweater – Gap.  Sold out. Similar in black here or grey sweatshirt fabric here (from a local independent brand).
Blue 420 Trainers – New Balance

Love the androgynous style of the Grey Stitch Scarf, a nod to old school City days with a bit of pinstripe.  This colourway is £14, other colours are in the Outlet section at just £4.20!

I’d love to hear from you.  Thank you for reading!!

Bloggers Picks 2014

In the first year of Alice’s Wonders I was lucky enough to catch the attention of a few fab bloggers who really bought into what I’m working so hard to offer. These lovely ladies supported me hugely both by featuring Alice’s Wonders on their blogs, and also by believing in me and my taste.

The first was back in February 2014. After the lovely Beth from Style Guile featured a gorgeous Kate Spade necklace on her blog, I mentioned to her that I loved Kate Spade and was trying to provide something similar but on a much more High Street budget.  Beth had a look at the S/S 14 Collection and chose a few of her favourite pieces.  One of which remains in the core collection still – a real classic, the Pink Floral Necklace (also available in yellow and blue)

Next was Alex from Wear and Where; for those of you not acquainted with these uber stylish ladies, Alex and Natasha are ex-In Style journalists who now co-write their brilliant lifestyle blog – a definite must-read.  A regular piece is the ‘Object of Lust‘ which is where Alice’s Wonders came in.  Alex featured the Lime Green Solitaire Necklace which is now out of stock, but there’s plenty more green loveliness where that came from….

Finally, a fab, fab – and fantastically stylish –  blogger, Kat from Does My Bum Look 40 took a real liking to the Leopard Print Scarf range and featured them on her blog.  I should say here that Kat is one of my dearest friends and we’ve been close since our eldest were teeny tiny and now they are 10 (!!), so a long time ago…

Here she is doing absolute justice to the Navy and Orange colourway – perfect styling for Spring too.

Coming soon – blogger picks from 2015 so far….

Spotted: Animal Print for Spring

Firstly, I suppose I should apologise for the appalling pun in the title, I just couldn’t resist. Love a pun, #sorrynotsorry.

Until last year I would have classed animal print as Autumn/Winter appropriate only – plus a bit out there and certainly not the ‘new neutral’ that I consider it now.  All that changed last summer when I fell in love with a pair of cheetah print skater shoes from Next, one of my favourite pairs of flats in my wardrobe.  Sadly now OOS, or I would be snapping up a replacement/spare pair sharpish.

Scooting round Bluewater yesterday I spotted a few fab pairs of animal print footwear in Warehouse – these skaters, which are a decent option to replace my fading Next ones (albeit a bit more expensive, but they are leather).

I also saw – but don’t appear to have taken a picture of – this pair of boots which would be perfect in S/S with a denim shirt dress and then into A/W as well. Imagine with coated skinnies and an oversized sweater….

And these perfect pointed ballet pumps – ideal for Spring (please it is coming – isn’t it?).  I’d wear with top-to-toe black, or with distressed denim and a black silky tee; this French Connection one is perfect, comes in lots more colours in store – picked up a mink/grey one yesterday – not online sadly.image (12)

A great way to make animal print more spring appropriate is to go for lighter shades….these two colourways from the Alice’s Wonders Leopard Print Scarf range fit the bill perfectly:

Beige and Stone Leopard Print Scarf
Nude and Peach Leopard Print Scarf

And proof of my animal print  affection – went for the double yesterday.  The aforementioned Next cheetah skaters worn with my current favourite – the Beige and Stone Leopard Print Scarf.

A quick mention to the new Beige Fold Over Clutch in the first image on this blog.  An absolute perfect foil to yesterday’s animal print accessories, don’t you think?

Introducing the Colour Block Stripe Scarves

Have been so excited to add these beautiful scarves to the Alice’s Wonders collection. They’ve already been incredibly well received – and shared on social media, which is always super cool to see. It is definitely one of the best things about my little business, seeing the pieces I’ve selected, and love – being worn by so many fab, lovely and stylish women all over the UK and even overseas!

5 gorgeous colour ways; a mix of vivid brights like the bright red and jade green scarves below, and more muted shades. The jade in particular is very low in stock already.

The navy is a rich, intense shade, almost cobalt.  An easy way to elegantly upgrade a simple navy sweater and jeans outfit.  Almost goes without saying that all the bright colourways would perfectly compliment a classic Breton.

Navy Blue Colour Block Stripe Scarf

The last two are from a more muted colour palette, with more than a nod to the decade of the season – the ’70s are everywhere, but with a contemporary edge. Can just picture Ali MacGraw in Love Story sporting either the maroon or the coffee scarves – sadly can’t guarantee the appearance of Warren Beatty though!

Finally, here’s how these lovely ladies – and me 🙂 – have worn theirs….

Ooh, one last thing – the Yellow Fern Scarf is coming back…sometime in the next week or so. Just email on info@aliceswonders.co.uk to go on the waiting list for this lovely burst of spring sunshine.

Stock drop coming soon…….

New scarf colour way – plus a bit of end-of-sale shopping..

Exciting news!

The new Spring Collection is due to launch at the end of February.  Crammed full of some absolutely beautiful pieces – perfectly pretty pastels, subtle rose gold necklaces and some gorgeous spring brights, plus much, much more.  I cannot WAIT to show you all.

Sneak peek coming soon – watch this space!

In the meantime, ease the wait with a look at the new addition to the Paisley Scarf range. Delicate soft grey and pink paisley in the same lovely soft fabric as the teal and the navy versions, for just £9.

Plus, did a bit of end-of-sales shopping yesterday and managed to fill a gap or two in my wardrobe.  Not the biggest fan of sales shopping but sometimes it’s worth doing a last trawl just before the sales end as the huge discounts can make it worth the hassle.

The skirt is from Zara, I bought it earlier in the season but returned it as the sequins sat oddly after the first wear, but for the sale price of £9.99 I thought it was worth another try.  Not online but there were quite a few in the Bluewater store.

The belt and the shirt are from GAP and were marked £5 and £10 respectively….GAP had 40% extra off all sale so my total bill was £9 for both. Now that was a bargain worth trawling the sales for!

I’ve needed a new chambray shirt for a while to replace a much missed ancient one I put my elbow through. And who doesn’t need a classic black belt in their wardrobe?!

Also snapped up two of these fab sweaters from Mango. Down 60% to £9.99 from £24.99.

They are a lovely lightweight knit – perfect for spring.  Definitely worth a look – but I’d probably size up, I went for medium in the black and large in the charcoal…also available in certain sizes in beige, orange, navy and green.

Finally, here’s me sporting not one, but two, of my super sale buys, plus the obligatory bit of sparkle to brighten up a grey, cold day.  Snow, aaarrrrgh, snow – that is all I’m saying about today!
