Making a statement with stripes.

It’s no secret that I love a stripe – anyone on my Instagram will certainly be aware of that.  And what’s even better than a stripe?  A stripe given a bit of a boost by some super sparkle.

Adding some statement jewellery is the perfect way to dress up a classic Breton and give it some extra impact. So simple, yet so effective. And I’m all about simple, effortless dressing (aka making life easy!).

Putting my money where my mouth is last week and sporting stripes and sparkle….

The outfit above was a real winner for me – including as it did, three of my very favourite things (cue the Sound of Music theme tune!); stripes, statement jewellery and denim.  Putting the shirt under the Breton gave the beautiful Chocolate Leaf Necklace a frame  – another major love of mine is a collar and a necklace – plus added that all important extra layer on a freezing January day.

My denim shirt is from ASOS, no longer stocked – but this one looks a pretty close match.

And on the subject of Bretons, my very favourite one is 4 years old from Uniqlo, such a fab weight and that real traditional boxy shape that is perfect over skinnies or half tucked into boyfriend jeans.  Sadly they stopped stocking them and I had been eking mine out, too scared to wear it in case it finally died.  Until the other day I popped in there and saw that they are BACK! They’ve kept their excellent weight and shape but updated with a simple boat neck – perfection.

2Also I see online that the new Ines de la Fressange for Uniqlo collection has landed and includes this top which looks a great contender as well.

1It also comes in a dress version which would be perfect in Spring with skaters and a denim jacket (or actually a denim shirt under) – hmm I do have a sneaking suspicion that this blog will NOT be good for my bank balance.

3Also, later on in the week couldn’t resist dressing this Boden Breton up with a sparkly cocktail ring, might be a bit much for the school run but I LOVED it!

Well, hello there!

So, it’s almost exactly a year since Alice’s Wonders was set up and the very first order received to much excitement.  It seems fitting that the occasion should be marked that by finally starting a blog to go with the website.

Where to start?

Well, as the King in Alice’s Wonderland says ‘begin at the beginning’…so a bit of Who Am I?

First of all, I’m Cathy – not Alice, the name comes from my very own small Alice mixed with one of my favourite books.  Ex-City worker, turned SAHM to 3, and now WAHM. I’m very (very very!) nearly 40 and allegedly a grown-up – but still obsessed with fashion and style. West Country ex-pat in Essex and have fallen hard for my adopted county’s love of sparkle and pretty things.

Inspired by a love for gorgeous accessories and a belief in the power of a bit of prettiness to brighten your day I started Alice’s Wonders in response to a frustrating search for something a bit different to the High Street – but on a strictly High Street budget.  Over the past year I’ve developed the website and the range and have learnt an enormous amount. I only hope my lovely customers agree!

To put a face to the name – here’s me, in some of my favourite things – denim, stripes and sparkles.

Thank you for reading my very first ever blog – how exciting!!
